The out of the box settings are definitely washed out and too bright as it has been reported multiple times by consumers and tech reviewers. I followed yours. The XFA240 features simple styling that one could take for an enterprise monitor. There was a problem. Personally I think I am very close to that sweet spot.
Currently dont have an answer. I ended up keeping the XF240H because I felt that it was the better monitor based on build quality and stand adjustability.
I picked up the KG240 as well. On a PC running an AMD Radeon R9 285 graphics card, FreeSync delivered around 75-90 fps in both Tomb Raider and Call of Duty WWII. Well, he is right^^
Would like to note I am running the monitor over display port at full 144hz and have heavily optimized it around Overwatch which is my main game of choice, but It looks generally solid to me. I was so close to sending this monitor back because of the out of box settings.
The only question we had was in the gamma presets. Thanks OP. I wrote a post about the differences between the Acer XF240H and the KG240 found here. Adjusted the brightness a little higher though, due to being difficult to read for me. Menu calibration refers to my use of a colorimeter and calibration program to increase the color accuracy as much as possible using only the monitors menu settings.
